In reality, The Museum of American Folk Art is located at 45 West 53rd Street in
New York NY 10019 USA.
In cyberspace, the same museum is located at www.folkartmuseum.org.
Since 1961, The Museum of American Folk Art, has been dedicated to exploring the diversity of American culture as expressed through folk art.
This museum has always believed in bringing the vision of both traditional and contemporary folk art to people around the world via traveling exhibitions. Now, with the world wide web, art lovers everywhere can experience American Folk Art, right from their very own homes.
The first stop on our virtual journey through the Museum of American Folk Art is the Information Center, where we can learn about the museum and find out general information such as museum hours, location, volunteer services and info regarding the museum library. This is the place to find the answers to such queries as:
- What is folk art and is it still made today?
- What is outsider art and is it different from folk art?
- What is the difference between folk art and craft?
- I have an artwork. What is it and what is it worth?
- I have an artwork that needs conservation. What should I do?
- How do I donate an artwork to the Museum of American Folk Art?
- Can my work be exhibited at the Museum of American Folk Art?
- Can I sell my artwork/crafts in the Museum shops?
- Does the Museum have a mail-order catalog?
- Is photography permitted in the Museum's galleries?
- Is photography of works of art in the Museum's collection available?
- Does the Museum of American Folk Art have an internship program?
- Is the membership list of the Museum of American Folk Art available for rent or sale?
- May I place images, text, and other materials from the Museum of American Folk Art Online on another electronic medium such as a CD-ROM, electronic bulletin board, etc.?
Next, we have a chance to take in a few of the many exhibitions on display at the Museum of American Folk Art.
The Museum's Permanent Collection from the Daniel Cowin Permanent Collection Gallery, is entitled: America's Heritage: Selections from the Collection of the Museum of American Folk Art. The continuing show looks at folk expressions from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Moving on, we can have a look at what is upcoming at the Museum.

There are hands-on art classes as well as lectures and workshops available. As well, the Museum's Folk Art Institute offers a program that is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and culminates in a Museum certificate and New York University, in collaboration with the Museum of American Folk Art, offers graduate degrees in American Folk Art Studies.
